I did a project a few semesters ago for my Intro to Humanities class on Gypsy musicians and actually came across a gypsy punk band named Gogol Bordello that has an interesting mix of traditional gypsy music with the more modern punk style. I also learned during that project of Django Reinhardt's gypsy ancestry and I've always considered him one of the finest acoustic guitarists of all time.

Yeah, I was introduced to them in the mid 90's by my dad. I like to introduce this traditional music because it gives me energy. I don't know any other way of explaining it, I just get energized and pumped up to levels that most rock music just can't reach. I feel others should experience what this band has to offer if only once.

Thanks David. I was going to ask you about the context for this video, but then I just Googled it instead and discovered that Taraf de Haidouks in a Romanian group that's been around since the mid 80s performing music in the gypsy tradition, as can be seen/heard here.
