So the course is coming to a close as we speak. Only 2 more days left :( This course coming to a close only reminds me that I have to be back at school in about a week for RA training. This I am definitely not looking forward to! BUT training this summer is supposed to be pretty cool. Apparently they decided to switch from the traditional training (which was days upon days of boring lectures and training--although very informative--they became monotonous after a while I'm sure as you can imagine), to actually placing us in the life of a resident living a Cortland. For this new training, the RHD's will be acting as residents, and having each of the RHD's act as RA's, APM's, and AA's. We are going to be living in the dorms with roommates (other RA's) (I believe they chose Cheney Hall), and they're going to give us scenarios for to act out. We will be able to see the RHD's react to the situations the proper way and watch them act out the procedures accordingly. I thought this idea was great! Although almost all of us have already been through the training, it's going to be good for a refresher! Also, the fact that they are actually putting us in the situations instead of speaking hypathetically of everything is going to be such a great teaching tool! Obviously if you're actually put in a situation you're going to learn from it more than if you were to just learn about the situation and procedures through lectures. I'm excited about this upcoming training but the fact that we have to be back on campus so soon is kind of bothersome :( It's also going to be the first time in 22 years that I haven't been home for my birthday (it's August 18th and we go back for training on the 14th). Okay, I think I'm done blogging here for now :) *If any of you have suggestions of things that you liked while you were dorming, please please please post them in response, I would love to hear your suggestions! Also, if you have suggestions on door tags, bulletin boards, or programs, please please please post them here! I would love to hear what you have to say and I'm always open to suggestions :)
