I found the Foucault reading to be dense but of high interest. As Dr. Reid suggested, I did not get bogged down with what I could not understand, but rather latched on to what I could understand. My ability to grapple with the concepts at hand was hinged to what little prior knowledge I had of the Victorian time period and sexual repression in general.
Foucault depicts a time when sex, although necessary for sustaining life and the strength of nations, was something looked upon as taboo, or rat… Continue

I just uploaded podcast #2 (wee bit late, sorry!) but OMG. It was a million times easier this time! So simple, less editing, and a lot less pulling my hair out. I remembered how to save the file and what program to use, thanks to all of my trouble on the first podcast, and the ease of uploading #2 made podcasting a much, much more enjoyable experience. After the technical trouble with #1 I thought I'd never, ever want to do a podcast again... but now I'm thinking, since it's so easy, I could get… Continue
As I read Henry Jenkins Convergence Culture, I appreciate what he is talking about and it is quite interesing, but I am finding his writing very lengthy. I hate the pages where he has 2 commentaries going on at the same time. I find that very confusing and way too busy. I wish he would just get to the point! (He needs to read Krug's book!) I find myself reading a few pages and then I have to put the book down and come back to it later on because it seems to just drag on.
I have to say no… Continue

MySpace is another friend of mine but overtime we’ve become quite distant. I think I have been a member of MySpace for a number of years now, probably when it first surfaced on the internet. I love Myspace because I’m able to find friends Ive lost contact with and they are able to find me. MySpace is cool because a person can design their page however they want and they can use things like HTML to make their page look different from the rest. Myspace used to be a very different site but now it s… Continue

Livejournal is cool. I liked it because I think it’s a cool way to get your thoughts down. I think I used it once. It’s good because it saves trees because instead of writing on paper, someone can write online but I like to do things the old fashion way. Like I said before, I used it once but I didn’t like it. I’d just rather write in my book or maybe even in the notes section of my blackberry. Although it wasn’t right for me, I think it is for others because I know a few people who uses it dail… Continue

I am always too lazy to post anything on youtube but I can honestly tell you I love love youtube. I do not know what the world would be like without youtube. How else could we be really informed. What I love the most about youtube is that there is a video for anything and everything you can possibly think of. There are videos you’ll watch that’ll make you cry of laughter and then there are others that will make you curse your computer. With youtube you can never miss what is going on. For exampl… Continue

Oh plurk. Plurk was my absolute favorite of the new sites I checked out. I think it is a really cute website. It made me happy and I didn’t even do anything. The only thing I didn’t like about plurk was that I couldn’t really see anyones information. The only thing you can see if someone’s update but other than that I thought the site was really nice. I don’t really have much to say about Seesmic. I don’t like it. This site is really really different from the rest. People post videos about themselves for others to see. I’m too lazy to do that so this site wasn’t for me. Continue

The Dewey Decimal system is even more retarded than I realized. I can't believe that something so old is still in use! Third level organization is interesting but I can see how with the library, an actual warehouse of books, it is hard to categorize one book under several different categories when that one book can only occupy on space on the shelf. I don't know how to fix the antiquated system, but it is quite obvious it no longer works. Continue

If you are at all interested, even in the slightest, you should come to Sperry 104 on Wednesday, October 15, at 9pm for the FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE. It is going to be shown and the turnout is expected to be huge!!! Take a look at my video if you are confused about politics.
Also the DA candidate, Mark Suben should be coming to campus tomorrow, Tuesday, October 14, from 6-7 in Jocobus Lounge for an open forum style talk. If you're interested in local politics or the process of local politics,… Continue

I haven't had a blog in a while, because I haven't come across anything really interesting since our podcast!
Up until I found out about the iPod Touch!!! I knew it existed, I just never really looked into it. I had no idea how many capabilities it had, and was thoroughly impressed with the engineering from Apple, as usual. So take a look at the video comparison I have done to the PDA/Smartphones.

Out of all of the social networking sites I would have to say that Pandora is my favorite and the one that I will end up using all of the time and in the future. Throughout my journey with the rest of the sites it seemed that I would go through fascination periods with each of them for a week and then soon forget about them once the week passed. This phase definitely did not pass with pandora because ever since I became a member I have been addicted to the site and have been on it multiple times… Continue

Buzznet is most definitely a social networking site for teens who have a little too much time on their hands. Or at least that's my impression of it as of right now. It supposedly combines music, with social networking with entertainment news and issues but the music aspect seems to be seriously lacking because all of the bands that they are offering information on are ones that are relatively famous and most definitely in the emo genre. Also, the social networking aspect of the site is just lik… Continue

When first entering Amie Street I immediately thought it was like every other music site and it was not until I looked deeper into the establishment of the website that I grew a liking for it. When you sign up as a member they ask what specific artists you are interested in which is similar to lastfm. But they also ask what two genres of music you primarily listen to which I thought was interesting. Amie Streets goal is for listeners to discover music by underground artists. Because the site is… Continue

6 out of the 8 websites I checked out were completely new to me. I don’t like change very much so it took me a while to adjust to them and know my way around. Although I enjoyed a few of the sites like plurk and twitter, I think I’m going to just stick with what I use now, myspace and Facebook—especially Facebook. Facebook is where all my friends from home and from school are and I can keep in contact with everyone through there. Having a lot of websites really confuses me and I often forget abo… Continue

Twitter was okay. I was a bit confused at first. I didn’t know what was going on and I sure didn’t know how to follow anyone so I felt a bit out of the loop. In Twitter, there isn’t much someone like me can do. I like a site where I can go into profiles, groups and etc. With Twitter, I didn’t feel like I could do that. Continue

Facebook is my friend. I had just joined the Facebook family about almost two years ago. At first I thought it was just for a college kids and I thought it was pretty boring so I stuck with MySpace. When I had signed up for Facebook, a friend talked me into it. After a while, browsing through, I started to get what Facebook is about and as I got comfortable and familiar with it, the more I use it. I probably log onto my Facebook account everyday. I check out who’s left me messages and what is go… Continue

I had no idea what I was getting into when I joined second life. I have played the Sims before, and it reminds me a lot of that...with endless possibilities. The first step that I took was friending Professor Reid and even that took me 8 years to figure out. I think that I am Second-Life challenged! So then I figured out that I could search events. Holy flip, it is really like you are getting ready to go to these things. The first event that I went to was a Haunted house. I was looking pretty ro… Continue
