Tell us a little about yourself and your interest in the course you're taking.
I'm a junior and it seems like I've been in school forever. I'm considerably older than average, but I like interacting with my fellow students. I'm a wife and a mom to 2 boys, ages 21 months and 17 years - quite an experience. I'm looking forward to this class because I enjoy reading fiction of all types.
What are your reading and writing habits? (i.e. what do you like to write and read?)
I like writing such as poetry, stories, memoir and essays, and I enjoy reading fiction.
How would you describe your general attitude toward computers and related technology?
Comfortable but not super excited

Lovin' Little Brother

I have been reading Little Brother today and I am really enjoying it! I really liked Distraction, but in some ways Little Brother seems to be the polar opposite - its all action and little description, whereas I found Distraction to be lots of description and characterization, with little action. Little Brother is a quick read and keeps you wanting to know what happens next - sorta' like The Da Vinci Code but better, in my opinion. And I thought I'd be annoyed that it focuses on teens, being so… Continue

Curious about book review grades

Well, I am dissapointed in my book review grade. I felt I worked hard and put a lot of thought into it, but apparently it is not what was expected because I only got an 80% I would be interested to know if anyone got an A, if you would be comfortable sharing, because I want to take a closer look at what the professor considers an A review. Maybe I can do better next time. I was very unclear on what was expected, but maybe I can formulate a better idea by Monday. Thanks if anyone is willing to sh… Continue

And I thought I'd be annoyed that it focuses on teens, being so immersed in teen strife in my personal life, but I like that about it, and will recommend it to my son when I'm done. I've already recommended Distraction to my mom (super literary) but I don't know if she's convinced. I've got some research in the works about my final paper topic, and have done a bit of writing, but early in the week I have a lot of writing due to my other class, so I will be able to be fully engrossed in the final paper starting tomorrow. I've been responding to the Ning discussions this evening, and after dinner I'll see if there are any opinions to be added over at the Wiki.

I've been reading Distraction today, and I have 2 chapters remaining, which I will finish up before bed tonight. This evening I've been reading a few discussions on the Ning and contributing my 2 cents. Tomorrow I'll be writing and submitting my final book review. Right now I'm going to stroll through the neighborhood with my husband and baby. I'll be thinking of cyberpunk, though ;)

I have been reading today and completing assignments for another class, so I am looking forward to discussing the first 4 chapters of the book (1/3 through). I feel better about my second book review as far as format is concerned. I need to finish Distraction so that I can write a review on it later this week, or else I need to finish The Diamond Age and start my final review with it as my focus. However I am currently more interested in Distraction, so I think I'll stay with that. I've started thinking about my final paper and I want to do some research this weekend (at the library) and start to get some notes down. This class is rushing on, but I still feel that I am on track (just barely).

Thank you so much for commenting on my blog! I totally felt the same way when Shira was going to rebuild Yod - I was horrified! That was such a selfish thing to think of doing - I was very relieved when she came to her senses. So nice to hear from you!

I have a lot to do for this class today and a very specific plan of attack, which is as follows:

1. I am now going to spend an hour and a half reading what folks have been discussing on the Ning and Wiki over the last few days and adding comments. Hopefully this will get my writing juices flowing for book review 2.

2. Then I am going to write the second book review on He, She and It, which I finished reading last night. I have taken several pages of notes, so hopefully this will help the process along.

3. I will then spend a few hours starting to read 'Distraction', which I have divided into 4 sections to be read over the next 4 days.

4. Finally, after I have had some time away from the second book review, I will take another look, do some final editing and submit the final draft.

I know that this is a lot to accomplish in a day, but if I can achieve it I will feel on track. Time to get started!

I'm a bit behind with posts, so I am trying to read the latest article and then comment on the blog about it here, as well as the blog that follows about feminism and cyborgs. So far I am barely understanding a word of the article, and think that it is way over my head. Maybe it will soon make more sense.

Today I have been reading a lot in the Ning and Wiki, as well as contributing to discussions. I have a bit more time to do this, since our book report deadline has been extended. I'll keep looking/contributing and write here again tomorrow.

Hi Rachel,

The Candor Alternative School is located in The Grace Bible Church next to the town hall. We have about ten students, who for various reasons, haven't met success in the traditional academic environment. Feel free to drop by any time during the school year.

I agree with what you said about He, She and It. Well written and thought provoking. So far this is my favorite book of the bunch.

I better "cruise" over to the wiki as well. For some reason I spend time either here or there. Wouldn't it be simpler if there was just one site?

So, yesterday I started reading He, She and It and I am enjoying it very much, a bit more than the previous two. I am one third of the way through the book and have a lot I'd like to discuss about it, so I'm going to cruise over to the wiki to do that now.
