Tell us a little about yourself and your interest in the course you're taking.
I teach 7th and 8th grade English at John F. Kennedy Middle School in Utica, New York. I like my job , the kids, and I'm especially fond of my colleagues.

As far as my interest in this course...

I love reading, but I am not taking this course for leisure. I'm not even taking this course to fulfill a Masters degree. I was credits short for Professional Teaching certification because I got bad advice and did a Masters degree in a field that did not meet requirements.

I have a slight interest in sci-fi, but I am hoping that this class helps me like it a little bit more. I'm really excited to read the last book because it's YA literature and I can talk about it with my kids in September.
What are your reading and writing habits? (i.e. what do you like to write and read?)
I belong to a book club. It consists of 7 teacher friends. We all get together, read books, and eat fantastic dinners. We normally read fiction, but recently read a memoir. We've also recently read a self-published book by a friend of one of our members (that was an experience in and of itself). As far as writing goes, I've never been a writer outside of academia (unless you count the novel I tried to write in one of my notebooks in elementary school). The closest I ever get to reading anything close to "cyberpunk" is a short story I read with my 7th graders by Isaac Asimov.
How would you describe your general attitude toward computers and related technology?
Comfortable but not super excited
What "Web 2.0" websites do you use?

Sooo Cyberpunk

I have a friend that's a graphic designer and I was checking out his work on his Myspace profile just a few minutes ago. He posted this awesome picture that jumped right out at me and screamed, "SOOO Cyberpunk"!!!!!

What do you think?

Beaten to submission

Haha...that sounds like me. I've been beaten until the submission of this paper. I feel like a weight has been lifted that's been sitting on my shoulders since July 1st. It's been a pleasure!

Hopefully, I'll be able to get back on later today and post some more things about Little Brother that I've been thinking about. If not, "there's always tomorrrow". Good luck everyone!!

A little onto 11

I'm DONE! As the title of this blog post exhibits...I went a little onto page 11, but that's just the last sentence or two of my concluding paragraph. I don't know if it'll be a hit or not, but I ended with a question. Oooooh...so cyberpunk of me.

Page 7

I'm on page 7 of my final paper...hoping that blogging every few pages will make the time pass more quickly and the work get done with ease. I'm liking where it's going and I hope that it makes sense. It's been a REALLY long time since I've written a paper like this and I always feel that papers like these are so over the top. I'm a middle school English teacher, so writing these scholarly papers on English seem like they're not really all that relevant to my means as a teacher of 13 and 14 year… Continue

Hi Judith,
I was just wondering if you could tell me where we can view our grades for the first book review. I wanted to check out Dr. Reid's comments before I started my second review so that I could adjust it accordingly. Thanks!

It isn't just you. The format of the class often makes me feel behind even when I have been keeping up on all of the reading and writing... as well as posting regularly. I have finally resigned myself to the fact that I will sometimes be late to comment on something that 6 other people have already talked about just based on the time of day that I happen to have time to get online that day. The format has plenty of negatives and plenty of positives. I guess I still adjusting to both :-)

Are you connecting with dial-up? I'm trying to troubleshoot your problem. Can you watch other YouTube videos?

If you're talking about the videos on the William Gibson page. I'm not sure why you're having a problem. I can see them fine. I'll try to embed them right here for you.

Does that work?
