the end is nigh

I just finished my final essay. I am pleased with the results. I am going to wait until tomorrow to edit it one last time and submit it. I have really enjoyed this class and I have learned a lot about cyberpunk literature as well as its role in modern society. I really liked the first two books and the last, I'm not crazy about He, She, and It and Distraction, but they weren't bad books, they just didn't appeal as much to me as the other three. Anyway that's all for now...

Its almost over...

Well, there is only a little more than a week remaining. I finished Little Brother on Friday and wrote my last essay about it. I really liked Doctorow's novel even if it is considered a young adult novel. It is something everyone, especially American's should read. I especially liked Marcus' original handle: w1n5t0n. If the title wasn't enough to prepare you for Doctorow's modern 1984, then the name of the protagonist should have hit you over the head. I am just now starting on my final essay. I… Continue

Almost done with Sterling's Distraction

I am now almost done with Distraction and have already started Little Brother. Like He, She, and It I have mixed feelings about Distraction. I like just about everything about the book minus the political aspects. I myself loathe politics, but that does not mean I do not care or am ignorant of the world around me, especially in my own country. I just hate the way politics have evolved to a popularity contest almost devoid of meaning or potentcy. Also, I have been ruminating on the prospects for… Continue

my second review

Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age is an action-packed window into the future after the cyberpunk age. Filled with vivid and memorable characters, Stephenson keeps his readers wanting more; even after five-hundred pages a reader may find him or herself wanting the story to continue. The story itself spans nearly an entire generation (eighteen years) and primarily follows the heroine for the nanotechnological age named Nell as her world struggles and strains under the weight of a c… Continue

He, She, and It & the second review

I am almost done with the third novel. I have mixed feelings about the book. I like the future story told through Shira, but not the older parts told by Malkah about the Golem from Jewish Prague. Don't get me wrong: I think the writing is good, I just find it a little distracting when I prefer to focus on the Shira parts. I must credit the Malkah parts for having some of the best phrases to quote like, "Every life is new. Every word is constantly speaking itself for the first time: birth, love,… Continue
