Tell us a little about yourself and your interest in the course you're taking.
I am technically a Senior, though this is my third year at Cortland. I just got back from a study abroad in La Rochelle, France, where I had a fantastic time and met some marvelous people from all over the world. I am an only child and very close to my parents, my mother moreso than my father.
I was interested in this course because at the rate technology is moving, our methods, ideas, and knowledge will soon be outdated and I'd like to keep as on the edge of technology as I can. I am also just a happier person when I take writing classes and it's one of my goals in life to do at least one thing for myself once in a while.
What are your reading and writing habits? (i.e. what do you like to write and read?)
I love to write short stories and poetry. I've begun a few pieces that I believe will eventually turn into novels. Sometimes I write just to write and other times I write for a specific purpose (i.e. a present for someone expressing how I feel or for a funeral service). I also vary in the ways that I write, as I get bored easily. I like to change points of view, from first to third person, depending on the type of the piece. Sometimes I get an idea and a scene sticks out and I just begin writing the scene, other times I have a vague idea for a character and I create Character Bios and flush them out until I get a feel for the character and build the scene around him or her. Sometimes the poetry rhymes and sometimes it doesn't.
I enjoy fantasy both in reading and writing. My genre of choice at the moment for reading is Paranormal Romance, though I also read fantasy and Sci-Fi, and my goal for this semester and upcoming summer is to conquer Jane Austen.
