Profile Information

Tell us a little about yourself and your interest in the course you're taking.
I am entering my 6th year of teaching. Wow! That sounds weird. I teach English and Reading at C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville. This class is one of two that I am taking this summer to begin my second masters (first masters is in Secondary Literacy). I wanted to come back to the college setting to update myself on what is new in the academic world so I can bring that back to my students.
What are your reading and writing habits? (i.e. what do you like to write and read?)
Right now, my passion is YA fiction and non-fiction. I love it because I can turn around and share great books with my students. When I have time to read, which isn't as often as I'd like, I devour books. Writing takes a bit more time as I can be quite meticulous when it comes to what I want to say.
How would you describe your general attitude toward computers and related technology?
Love 'em
What "Web 2.0" websites do you use?
YouTube, Flickr (or other photo-sharing)

Okay... so apparently using psychology is a big no no in the post-colonial studies!?!!??! Don't bother checking that book out. Psychology is too western.... Apparently westerners are not allowed to comment at all on post-colonial identity... so why are we trying to do it in our papers? Vent done. I'll see you Wednesday... but don't bother with the book. Try to use only eastern sources I guess.... ARGGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Cheryl, I love you.... but you do realize you are going to kill me here right? I sat down tonight after putting the kids to bed to see what I should be looking for when I start reading... yes, "start".... and I see that you have already written a book! You leave me no choice. The comment war is on! lol.... of course I have to read my book tonight before I can comment, but just you wait :-)

Paper #1 is complete:) Now, on to paper #2 for Victorian Lit. UGH! I forgot about all this writing. Maybe I blocked it out during undergrad:) Anyway, I saw a preview for a show on the Science channel...I am married to a science teacher so don't label me as the biggest dork just yet:) There's a show on this channel called Tomorrowland and they are doing a segment this week on AI and the creation of a robot that is the closest to behaving like a human being that we have at this point! Weird:)

I feel behind because it seems everyone has already finished Little Brother and I am just starting it. So far, it is holding my interest like He, She and It did but I definitely need to read more to enter the discussions.

Hello! I am back again and ready for the home stretch. My team took home the bronze medal last night and I couldn't be happier. I am so excited! At any rate, today is paper day so I will probably post my first draft later on today for comment:)

Okay everyone...those of you in the Victorian lit class know already but I am off today for Empire State Games where my team is playing this weekend. If anyone is in Cortland, come on over to the PER to check us out! Hopefully, I'll be back Saturday with good news:)

Still plugging through Distraction. I am still not sold on this novel. I do like its political nature but I still feel the characters are flat and aren't really contributing much to the society around them. Maybe that is Sterling's point as well. Maybe their flatness is supposed to represent the lack of feeling, the lack of passion people will have in the future. I don't know. I need to keep reading to find out.

I am well into Distraction and it is okay. I don't like the characters as much as I did in He, She, and It but I find that Oscar is growing on me like a fungus. I just keep wanting to see what he is going to do and what his plan truly is. He has just arrived back in Washington for the Science meeting and I am interested to really discover his motives because I am convinced he is just using Greta.

I was wondering what happened to my fellow comment leaver! Have you been reading for Victorian Lit? This is my favorite book of all the books we have been reading in both classes so far. I am dreading Distraction... but only because of someone else's blog. I can't remember who it was, but they said it was like reading Neuromancer. I will be starting it as soon as I finish Scenes of Clerical Life.... I actually have to work all day tomorrow... and again on Friday. My mom and my normal babysitter are both out of town.... this is going to be a hard week!

Hello...back again. I had to go to Long Island for the weekend and I am back to the blog. I just finished watching Blade Runner, a cyberpunk movie that I want to review for review #3 to spice things up a little bit. I also started Distraction. It's interesting. I want to keep reading. I am only on Chapter 5 so I am still trying to figure out the position the book is taking.
