Tell us a little about yourself and your interest in the course you're taking.
Hi everyone! I'm Brittany, and this is my senior year at SUNY Cortland. I transferred from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. where I was a psychology major. I loved it at Canisius but realized that it was just too expensive. Last fall was my first semester at Cortland and the year flew by! I was an R.A. in Randall Hall in the spring semester and will be again next fall semester. Oh yeah, and I'm an Early Childhood Education major with a concentration in Humanities! I plan on recieving my masters in Special Education and will hopefully start Fall '09. Thanks for reading! :)
What are your reading and writing habits? (i.e. what do you like to write and read?)
I love love love love LOVE to read Nicholas Sparks and Janet Evonovich. I just finished Nicholas Sparks' "Nights in Rodanthe" because I saw a preview for it in theaters. I was SO exited to se that they were making it into a movie! I do like to read the books before I see the movie though (the books are just always so much better)! I also read P.S. I LOVE YOU this summer and it was SUCH an amazing book. I would like to read more from that author in the future (when I can find time of course haha).
How would you describe your general attitude toward computers and related technology?
Love 'em

Cyberpunk Picture

Check out the new cyberpunk picture I just posted! A little too late seeing as we're ending class tomorrow but hopefully everyone will still come on the site to check things out :) I found the picture on wikipedia. I typed in 'cyberpunk' to see what it would bring up and this picture was all the way to the right of the screen. I thought it was pretty cool so I added it to my page! :) I'll add more soon!

Coming to a close

So the course is coming to a close as we speak. Only 2 more days left :( This course coming to a close only reminds me that I have to be back at school in about a week for RA training. This I am definitely not looking forward to! BUT training this summer is supposed to be pretty cool. Apparently they decided to switch from the traditional training (which was days upon days of boring lectures and training--although very informative--they became monotonous after a while I'm sure as you can imagine… Continue

He, She, and It

Oh my goodness I absolutely love love loved this book! It was SO good. Although I really enjoyed Stephenson's Diamond Age, I have to admit Peircy's novel is definitely my favorite! I really enjoyed her style of writing, it was so smooth and easy to follow. Her terms weren't so over my head as they were in Neuromancer and it was so much easier to wrap my head around! I really couldn't put it down. Put along with Diamond Age, this book took me longer to read than I had hoped, probably because it t… Continue

La tee da!

Okee dokee..Just felt like blogging for a bit because I have some time before work. Maybe I will talk about the books we've read. I really didn't enjoy Neuromancer only because I felt it was wayyyy too far over my head, but I did really really really enjoy Diamond Age. It really felt to me like it was a modern day cyberpunk fairy tale. The fact that it was set in the future made it SO very interesting to read, and the Primer aspect of the novel was so fascinating. I loved everything about the bo… Continue

My first, but not my last!

So as everyone can see, I'm not really a huge blogger. This may be an extremely long way to make up for my non-blogging prior to this. I suppose I'll talk about the class and it's online structure for starters. First off, I'd like to say I have really enjoyed taking this class thus far. At times it has been stressful, but honestly, what course isn't? I suppose it wouldn't be worth it if it were stress free and not difficult in some respect. I enjoyed that it was online mostely because of the con… Continue

Sorry I never got back to you yesterday. I never got on the computer at all. I'm glad you finally got your kink straightened out. That's so frustrating when things don't work the way they're supposed to.

My suggestion: email Dr. Reid directly - have his email, but its on my laptop...I'll send it over to you when I get on the computer (I'm commenting from my phone right now). Sorry you're not being able to find it...that would make me crazy!

Go to the cortland web CT and click on grades. You got access to the site when you signed up for the class. I hope that helps!

Brittany that sounds like a good idea to me. You know that you can start a discussion in the group discussion forum, right? At the bottom of the forum there's a little button to start a discussion. Why don't you start us off?

Wow! I don't have enough good things to say about it. It's all my really close teacher friends and we really rip apart books. Our most recent read "A Change in Destiny" is a self-published book by one of our members' friends. It was a good story, but it's obvious she didn't have a real editor (probably her husband), so the fact that most of us are English teachers it tore us up! The best thing about it is that we still found a great many things to talk about. We usually get together at around 6PM and we never leave our location until well after 9PM because we just talk the books to death. It's refreshing because it's educational, philisophical, and great therapy. The best part is, we don't have to worry about getting a grade!

I agree with your thoughts on books before movies. It also sounds like we have close styles as far as the books we read.

Welcome Brittany. You might find these novels a little different from the ones you describe but that's what taking a course is all about, right? An encounter with a world you might not otherwise had known existed.
