I've had theories that the internet could potentially unify the world by allowing "we the people" to be in constant contact with our government officials to agree or disagree on subjects and actions as a "true" democracy.
I've also had ideas of government being completely reconstructed in terms of "local" social networks being used to help communities which are connected to other larger level social networks as county, going on to region, to state, to so on and so forth. Unifying us together to broadcast the goods and services of each other to help our society in what we each do best and overall helping society to the best of everyones abilities. It would require everyone owning a computer to do so and I believe if such a task were achieved, paper currency would become obsolete, social "classes" would decay, power would be put in the hands of the people, and "everyone" could prosper by being able to live comfortably.
The main hindrances at this point are resources and greed. With the unification of all the minds of particular fields, when education is free and available to those who can excel in their fields of interest, they would be able to make advancements to help assure such a civilization to do their best without the yearn for financial success or likewise stress of financial problems by doing what they love. Oil companies would release the patents they have bought-out over the years to allow freedom from petrol as a means of transportation which would greatly benefit society and the environment, entertainment would be available to those who wanted it, and potentially crime rates would become non-existent or would be extinguished by the level of social networking by providing security systems to all as a means to protect "life" most of all, instead of "valuable possessions".
"Government" would be used as a means to help distribute crops out of local areas accordingly to help end world hunger by reducing unnecessary waste, they would help regulate people with increasing standards to go to where they could be of most use, if they had the skill and desire, to work in laboratories for their fields. They would still be able to be in contact with their loved ones any time of day through the "ultimate" social network. Government would be put back in "its place" as helping the people instead of controlling them.
This is just some of the ideas that I've Philosophized about. Sure, there are problems which underlie certain parts of these ideas, but I'm just sharing. My mind is always working on one thing or another and I like the idea of a society where stress only comes from working too much, but people wouldn't have to worry about losing their job if their mental/physical health were at risk. With the funding for individuals would be living and doing what they find comfortable, distribution centers would supply food and online sites would offer clothes and entertainment besides live performing bands, operas, plays, Broadways, and general entertainers. With designers and lovers of the liberal arts being able to make what they wanted, there wouldn't be risk of everyone droning together which was a propaganda fear tactic of a Communist country back in the 50's, individuality would be able to flourish in taste because everyone has different preferences.
